Wayne County Couple Accused Of Endangering Infant
A couple from Wayne County has been accused of endangering the welfare of a seven week old child when medical officials at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester notified authorities that the child’s injuries were not accidental. The couple is from Lyons and they were arrested early in the month of May. The infant in the middle of the problem suffered broken ribs, a broken leg, and brain injuries. Michael J. Casey and Samantha Mesleyn of Old Lyons Road were arrested and taken into custody by police after the child was examined by medical officials. Mesleyn is the mother of the infant but Casey is not the infant’s father. Mesleyn brought the infant to the center mentioned above for treatment in December.
The bail for the couple was set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond and the two were arraigned in Lyons Town Court. The couple lived at the address listed above but was not the only ones at that residence. The two people accused of endangering the welfare of the infant told police and other investigators that they are the primary caregivers of the infant. The couple has not been charged with physically harming the infant but was charged with endangering the child, which is a penalty that comes with a year in county jail if convicted.
